Tunisia travel is about long, sandy beaches and safe tourism. Finding a beach hotel in Hammamet is not difficult despite the popularity of this seaside town.

A mere 2½ hour flight from London and even closer from other areas in Europe, Tunisia is the perfect escape for Europeans seeking sun during the cold winter months.

The beaches of northern Africa are like nowhere else in the world with wide, warm beaches that seem to be endless. Unlike many European beaches in mid-summer the stretches of beach never seem overly crowded. Towns and villages along the coastline have a strong Spanish and Moorish influence which is often reflected in the architecture.

Holidays to Tunisia have even more to offer, however, than beautiful beaches and architecture. The historical sights worth seeing date back to Roman times and there are museums and sites that can be explored all over the country.

Hammamet

Often referred to as the “Tunisian Saint Tropez”, the Gulf of Hammamet attracts thousands of visitors from Europe and all over the world.

Located 64 kilometres south of the capital Tunis by road, Hammamet has miles of fine, sandy beaches, clean, sparkling seas and modern hotels that cater to the well-being of guests. Tourism here is well-established, so even hotels with a lower star rating know how to look after their visitors.

The town itself has a medina where one can get lost exploring all the little market stalls and shops, there is an ancient kasbah that overlooks the sea and there are fashionable, upmarket boutiques with wonderful traditional tunics and caftans available to buy. The town is safe, with pedestrian-friendly streets and boulevards lined with restaurants and shops.

Look out for exhibitions, festivals and other amusements which are on at different times of the year, particularly the summer. Sea sports, diving and fishing activities are available for the more active Tunisia holiday maker.

Finding a Hotel Hammamet

For independent travellers, the best time to get a fair deal in a hotel is in late spring and early fall when it is out of season. Through the summer, most hotels are filled up with package tourists, and in the winter, many hotels close.

Hammamet has a wide offering of hotels, but the best selection in in the middle range. Rock-bottom-budget travellers will have problems finding an acceptable offer on hotels, although there are 2 campsites in Hammamet, one of which is in the town centre.

Prices vary between $25 per night to over $500 per night per hotel room. The best way to find a deal is to compare amenities and prices of Hammamet hotels online and be careful to read reviews which detail the experiences of Tunisia travel and hotel facilities and service.

Remember that Tunisia, although geared for tourism, is not Europe and sometimes the expectations of travellers here can be a little high.
